Rediscover Greeneville
Preserving the Tradition of Sustainable Community
Home to President Andrew Johnson and Davy Crockett, Greeneville is the second oldest town in the State of Tennessee. This small community of 16,000 people lies in the Nolichucky River valley at the base of Cherokee National Forest in northeast Tennessee. Just as early settlers came across the mountains in the late 1700's to settle and find a new way of life, today, thousands of people across America are also looking for new opportunities.
"Rediscover Greeneville" is a community effort designed to preserve the tradition of sustainable community by providing opportunities for their young people and inviting a whole generation of new pioneers to join them in a lifestyle that is rich in history and tradition, yet embraces all the opportunities of much larger communities.
Philanthropist Scott Niswonger, together with a group of community visionaries, have developed a strategy for community development that revitalizes the downtown, provides resources for entrepreneurship, invites tourism, educates its young, and provides the opportunity to work, live and play in traditional small-town America with all the amenities of modern life.
